General procedure: GN/SO3H (80 mg) was added to the 3 mL of EtOH/water (1:1) and dispersed for 30 min. Then, malononitrile (1 mmol), isatin (1 mmol), and dimedone (1 mmol) were added to the mixture and the mixture was heated to reflux and kept at this temperature for an appropriate time. After the time of reaction was completed, water was separated by centrifuging followed by extracting the crude product by ethyl acetate. The solvent was dried using Na2SO4 and removed from the reaction by evaporation with a rotary evaporator. Finally, the crude product was recrystallized in hot ethanol to achieve the pure product. The GN/SO3H nanocomposite was washed and reused several times.

General procedure: To a flame-dried screw-capped test tube equipped with a magnetic stir bar was added I, 4,7,10,13, 16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane (0.396 g, 1.5 mmol), KF (0.087 g, 1.5 mmol) and 1- methylindoline-2,3-dione 3 (0.50 mmol). Then the screw-capped tube was evacuated and backfilled with argon. The mixture was dissolved in THF (2.0 mL) under argon atmosphere. The resultant reaction mixture was kept stirring at 30 C for 5 min. To the stirring solution was added pyridine 7 (0.75 mmol) and the aryne precursor 2 (0.75 mmol). When TLC control showed the completion of the reaction (typically after 12 h), the reaction stopped and the crude reaction mixture was purified by column chromatography on silica gel to afford the corresponding indolin 2-one derivatives 8 in good yields.

After completion of the reaction (monitored by TLC), ethyl acetate was added stirring and continued for another 5 min. The precipitate formed was filtered. Evaporation of solvent gave the crude product which was recrystallized using ethanol to give the pure compound.

Stirring was continued at this temperature until the starting material was completely consumed (TLC monitoring). After completion, the mixture was quenched with sat. aq NH4Cl (2mL) and extracted with EtOAc (2 × 5 mL). The combined organic layers were dried (anhyd Na2SO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure to dryness. The crude product thus obtained was purified by column chromatography (activated silica gel, 60-120 mesh, hexane-EtOAc) to afford pure 3aa as a white solid; yield: 0.35 g (97%); mp 177-179 C.

General procedure: At the first, a mixture containing (10% mol) aimin base ligand and transition metal salts (10% mol) was prepared in 10 ml dichloromethan. Then a mixture of isatin derivatives (1 mmol) and (S)-proline (1.1 mmol), in 10 mL ethanol was added to mixture. After completion of the reaction (monitored by TLC), the reaction mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (15 mL). The combined organic layer dried over anhydrous MgSO4. The organic layer was concentrated in vacuum to furnish the products, which were recrystallized from ethanol.

The synthetic route of 5-Bromo-1-methylindoline-2,3-dione has been constantly updated, and we look forward to future research findings.
