The reaction mixture was cooled to rt and water was added. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na2S04, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude material was purified by column chromatography (silica gel column and elution with 5% MeOH/CfLC^) to give 2-oxoindoline-6-carbonitrile (5.97 g, 37.7 mmol, 80 % yield) as a brown solid. RT=1.15 min (3 min).
