General procedure: N-substituted isatin (3a-g) (0.9 mmol) and tryptamine (4) (1 mmol) in EtOH (5mL) in the presence of (0.2 mL) glacial acetic acid and 4 A molecular sieve were stirred at RT for 24 hours.
