The recovered organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure The obtained solid product was dispersed in 50 ml of methanol, stirred for 30 minutes, filtered and dried to obtain 12.5 g of 6-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1- (1-phenylethyl)-1H-indole (76.7%).
